What is the best time to visit Tambopata?

Tambopata can be visited year-round. The dry season (May to October) offers excellent wildlife viewing and easier hiking conditions, while the rainy season (November to April) features lush landscapes and active wildlife.

Do I need to be physically fit?

A moderate level of fitness is recommended. Most excursions include guided walks on forest trails and boat trips, but no technical hiking experience is required.

Are vaccinations required?

No vaccinations are mandatory. However, travelers are encouraged to consult their healthcare provider regarding recommended vaccinations and malaria prevention before traveling to the Amazon.

How much luggage can I bring?

We recommend bringing only the essentials in a small backpack or duffel bag. Large suitcases can usually be stored safely in Puerto Maldonado during the tour.

Day 1 :

Cusco (3,300 m.a.s.l.) – Andes (3,650 m.a.s.l.) – Cloud Forest (1,400 m.a.s.l.)

Your adventure begins with an early morning departure from Cusco, traveling through the spectacular Andean Highlands towards the world-famous Manu National Park, one of the most biodiverse destinations on Earth.
Along the way, visit the fascinating Ninamarca Chullpas, ancient pre-Inca funerary towers built by the Lupaca culture, before exploring the charming colonial town of Paucartambo, renowned for its traditional architecture, vibrant culture and local museum.
The journey continues to Acjanacco Pass, the gateway to the Manu Biosphere Reserve and the entrance to the Peruvian Amazon. As you descend from the Andes into the lush Cloud Forest, you'll experience dramatic changes in scenery and climate while discovering one of Peru's richest ecosystems.
This unique habitat is home to remarkable wildlife, including the iconic Andean Cock-of-the-Rock, Peru's national bird, the elusive Spectacled Bear, colorful orchids, bromeliads, tree ferns and countless endemic plant and animal species. Enjoy guided nature walks with opportunities to observe wildlife before arriving at Orquídeas de San Pedro Lodge, where you will spend your first night surrounded by the incredible biodiversity of the Amazon rainforest.

Day 2 :

Cloud Forest – Cock-of-the-Rock - Alto Madre de Dios River - Jungle Night (600 m.a.s.l.)

Start the day at sunrise in search of the Andean Cock-of-the-Rock (Rupicola peruvianus), Peru's national bird, famous for its spectacular courtship display in the heart of the Cloud Forest.
After breakfast, continue descending through the lush Manu Cloud Forest, surrounded by extraordinary biodiversity, until reaching the village of Pilcopata. From there, travel to Atalaya Port, located on the Alto Madre de Dios River, where your Amazon adventure continues by motorized canoe into the Peruvian Amazon Rainforest.
As you navigate the river, enjoy excellent opportunities to spot wildlife, including herons, cormorants, kingfishers, vultures, monkeys and many other bird species that inhabit the Manu Biosphere Reserve.
Arrive at our private Erika Nature Reserve, where a guided rainforest walk introduces you to one of the Amazon's giants—the majestic Ceiba Tree, one of the largest and oldest tree species in the tropical rainforest. As night falls, join an exciting night jungle walk to discover colorful frogs, insects, spiders and other fascinating nocturnal creatures.

Free White-Water Canoeing Experience

From Pilcopata, enjoy an optional 1.5-hour canoeing adventure on the Koñeq and/or Alto Madre de Dios River (Class I–II rapids). Paddle through stunning rainforest scenery, enjoy the gentle rapids and cool off with a refreshing swim in the crystal-clear waters.

Day 03 :

Parrot Clay Lick, Machuwasi Lake & Amazon Wildlife

Wake up early for one of the highlights of your Manu Amazon Tour—a visit to a spectacular Parrot Clay Lick along the Alto Madre de Dios River. Every morning, colorful parrots gather on the mineral-rich clay banks to feed on essential salts, offering an unforgettable wildlife spectacle. Species commonly seen include the Blue-headed Parrot, White-eyed Parakeet, Blue-headed Macaw (Maracaná) and many others.
After breakfast, continue to the beautiful Machuwasi Lake, where will paddle quietly in a catamaran to see a huge diversity of bird species such as hoatzin a prehistoric bird, horned camungos, red headed cardinals, crowned heron, vultures, cormorants, and others
This peaceful wetland is one of the best places in the Peruvian Amazon for birdwatching and wildlife observation walking we can observe monkeys, capybaras, snakes and other species. Possibility of doing another night walk in search of toads, small reptiles and nocturnal mammals such as monkeys, tapirs or perhaps capybaras.
In the evening, join an optional night jungle walk, an excellent opportunity to discover the Amazon after dark. Search for colorful frogs, toads, reptiles, nocturnal birds and mammals such as tapirs, night monkeys and capybaras.

Day 04 :

Shintuya Hot Springs & Waterfalls – Amazon Rainforest Experience

After breakfast, begin a scenic 3-hour boat journey along the Alto Madre de Dios River, surrounded by pristine Peruvian Amazon Rainforest. Your destination is the natural paradise of the Shintuya Hot Springs, located in the heart of the jungle.
From here, enjoy a guided 3-hour round-trip hike through lush lowland rainforest trails leading to hidden waterfalls. Along the way, discover the incredible biodiversity of the area, with opportunities to observe exotic Amazon flora and fauna, including tropical birds, medicinal plants, butterflies and other wildlife species native to the region.
After the hike, relax and unwind in the natural hot springs of Shintuya, surrounded by untouched jungle scenery—a perfect moment of rest in the Amazon wilderness.
In the afternoon, return by boat along the Alto Madre de Dios River to Lodge, where you will spend your final night immersed in the sounds and atmosphere of the magical Amazon jungle.

Day 05 :

Return to Cusco & Hummingbird Garden Experience

After breakfast, we board our boat and return along the Alto Madre de Dios River to the port of Atalaya, where our vehicle will be waiting for the journey back to Cusco.
On the way, enjoy with a visit to the stunning Mirador Pico de Hoz Hummingbird Garden (750 m.a.s.l.), a sustainable conservation center dedicated to protecting local biodiversity.
Here, you will have the opportunity to observe and photograph a wide variety of hummingbirds, along with other Amazon wildlife such as toucans, king vultures, monkeys, and—if lucky—the elusive sloth bear (spectacled bear)
Lunch is served en route as we continue through the landscapes of the Andes. Arrival in Cusco is expected in the afternoon.
